IMPROPER CARE LABELING CHARGES BROUGHT BY FTC SUPPORTED BY IFI DATA
In March 2001, a Not In Vogue bulletin from IFI alerted members to problems
with Pelle Pelle flocked fabric garments. In February 2003, Pelle Pelle agreed
to pay a $40,000 civil penalty to settle with FTC charges that it put improper
care labels on flocked fabric garments. The care label stated that the garments
could be washed or drycleaned but when they were drycleaned, the adhesive
securing the flocking was dissolved. Just by coincidence, the Not In Vogue
in the upcoming March Fabricare Resources features a different Pelle Pelle
garment. Let’s see how long it takes for the FTC to act this time.
